Nike Global Challenge

Over the weekend, while most of the world else was eating, sleeping and breathing Olympic hoops from Beijing, the Portland suburb of Hillsboro, Ore., played home to some future Olympians at the Nike Global Challenge.

Nike took 30 of the high schoolers ballplayers in America and divided them into three teams to be placed in a tournament along with five international squads from Serbia, Canada, Puerto Rico, Senegal and Lithuania. While all of the international teams were solid — especially Serbia, a team of mostly 19-year-old pros who were coming off a Euroleague junior championship and upset a loaded USA-3 team on the NGC’s first day — the championship ultimately came down to USA-1 versus USA-2. Led by tournament co-MVP’s Abdul Gaddy (12 pts, 7 asts) and Avery Bradley (25 pts), teammates at Bellarmine Prep in Tacoma, Wash., USA-2 got the win and took home the gold medals.
