Stalingrad “the Cage” of Paris

Name: Stalingrad
Address: Boulevard de la Villette (75019 Paris)
Subway Station: Stalingrad
Level of Competition: From good to excellent, depending of the season. It’s always way better in the summer.
Court Status: One of Paris’ most famous playgrounds because of its location (under the subway) and of its setting : a cage!
Court Specs: Two really small full courts.
Type of Play: Full courts 3×3. The courts are right under the subway (Line 2), on the La Villette boulevard (between Stalingrad place and Colonel Fabien place). They are surrounded by bars, so watch out for elbows because getting knocked out of bounds can be quite painful…
Surface: Asphalt.
Rims: Metal but way higher that usual, almost 10-2 ft.
Nets: No
Lights: No
Hours of Operation: Open 24/7 but it’s hard to play at night because of the lack of light…
Pay-to-Play: No
League Play: Sometimes, in the summer time, some spontaneous leagues are formed. But most of the time, it’s some old fashion games where the winners stay and those on the sidelines get next.
Best time to Play: During the week-end, from May to September
The Deal: This court is one of the fiercest of Paris, because of its location (19th district - North East of Paris), and because of its setting: in a cage under the subway. When it’s full, it’s not a court you’re stepping onto… it’s an arena! Trashtalking is a common thing so it’s always better to come prepared and to have the ability to keep its composure, even under pressure. Playing in such a confined space, the game can get pretty physical. “No Blood, No Foul!” is not just a bunch of words around here… it’s a rule.
