Ballers In Bilbao Want Their Court Back

Sad news in the world of streetball this week in Spain: Some of the most beloved courts in the northern city of Bilbao have been removed after the decission of a Judge. Placed in the centric “Parque de Doña Casilda”, the neighbors of the zone had denounced their use because of the big amount of noise produced by the ballers when playing on them.
It was back in 2004 when the process started and early this year the Court sentenced that the city council shoud take the required measures to remove or avoid the noise produced by the different elements of the court. The council had tried to remove some metallic fences, and to change the rims and backboards, but it has proven to be not enough for the Judge and the neighbors.
So, finally, the Judge ordered the hoops removal until a solution is found. While this doesn’t happen, the sports councilor of Bilbao has authorized the use of the old gym “La Casilla”, which will be opened on weekends for every baller that wants to go there to play basketball.
This news has been widely commented all around Spain. Generic newspapers and specialized websites have claimed that basketball should never be prohibited, while people commenting in fan forums do not understand this decission.
