Team USA Hits NYC

Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Chris Paul and the rest of the U.S. men’s national squad took a break from their training camp in Las Vegas to fly to New York City last week for a one-day excursion in preparation for the Beijing Olympics.
Between a whirlwind schedule of interviews, TV segments and a tour of the Nike Commitment Gallery art display in Harlem—plus a early-morning boat trip to the Statue of Liberty for a photo shoot—Team USA stopped by the famous Rockefeller Plaza in midtown Manhattan to receive their official red, white and blue uniforms.

With one of the city’s most popular tourist attractions, the Rockefeller ice rink, having been turned into a basketball court for the day, a crowd full of local students and onlookers was treated to a hoops exhibition before the U.S. squad arrived. Some of the world’s top playground basketball talent—Baltimore’s Pat “Da Roc” Robinson and Atlanta’s Marvin “High Rizer” Collins teamed with New York products James “Speedy” Williams, Shannod “JFK” Burton and Ryan “Special FX” Williams for a dunking and ball-tricks show that brought the crowd to its feet.
When the U.S. team entered the plaza, they were presented with their Olympic jerseys, took some questions from the fans and played a little H-O-R-S-E (the team of Deron Williams and Chris Paul beat Michael Redd and Tayshaun Prince). From there it was to the Plaza Hotel for another media session, where Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard and the guys held Q&A sessions and did photo shoots with media outlets from all over the world.
