Chris Paul & Ricky Rubio, two stars in Barcelona

Spaintournaments|   October 21, 2008

Ricky Rubio and Chris Paul met last week in Barcelona. They both were present in the Industry Ghetto court, in Sants where Nike and BallersNetwork organized a 3-on-3 tournament. The greatest prize for the teams reaching the final game was the privilege of being coached by those two basketball stars.

Paul was in Barcelona because his team, the New Orleans Hornets, played against the Washington Wizards. He took the chance to meet with his rival in the last Olympic Games final. Ricky Rubio, the amazing young guard from Spain.

They both were kind to their fans, signing pictures and even jerseys, posing for photos with them… They greeted each other and talked for a while.

Meanwhile, the ballers were competing in the tournament on the main court of Sants, until the two best reached the final game. There, Ricky Rubio took over as the coach of one of the teams, and so did Paul with the other.

Once they gave quick advices to win to their players, the final started. Both watched the game with interest and celebrated every point their respective players scored. The team coached by Chris Paul was finally the winner, but both of them got some Nike and Jordan gifts from the hands of Ricky and Paul.

Besides, Chris Paul presented his new basketball shoes, the Jordan CP3 II, created for the player by Jordan Brand, a section of Nike Inc. These new sneakers have exclusive design details for Chris Paul.

Afterwards, both gave an interesting press conference. They talked about each other with admiration and respect. Most of the questions focused in their match up during the final game of the Olympic Games.

Paul is amazed with Ricky, since “what he has already done is crazy! He is just 17 years old. I am 23 and have been 3 years in college and then 3 in the NBA to be able to play in the Olympics. He will come to the NBA to steal my job.”

Ricky Rubio also admires Paul. For him “it’s incredible to be with him here. A couple of years ago I was watching him on TV and now he is here by my side. It’s really incredible.”

Thus, Paul was excited with his trip to Barcelona, where he met one of the most promising prospects in the worlds. Two basketball superstars, together on one of the most famous streetball courts of Europe. Paul wants “to come back to Barcelona next summer, but for vacations.”

Paul is right. It’s amazing how young Rubio is and I can’t wait to see where he’s headed over the next few years. Overall, this sounds like it was a great event. They should have thought about getting Paul and Rubio out there for a little one-on-one!

On the cover of “GIGANTES” I am there (the cover with Chris Paul and Ricky Rubio). I am the first baller from Spain to play for the Oak Hill Warriors, one of the best schools in the USA.

Hope to be on the cover again and again as my basketball career rises!
    See you soon!
