Name: Jason Grisby
Age: 20
Hometown: Oakland, California
Height: 6-5
Weight: 205
Shoe size: 14
Position: Forward
My Home Court: O’Dowd Gym
Playing Experience: Started off with the typical school leagues in early grade school, and as I got a little older I got into more competitive play in AAU. I went on to play four years of high school varsity at Bishop O’Dowd High School while also running with the Oakland Soldiers in the summer time.
Current Team: No set team, just run with anyone who’s down to compete. If the play is solid I’ll hoop with anyone; parks, rec centers, wherever.
Favorite Sneakers: I’ve been heavy into shoes since I was about seven years old, so this one is tough. My favorite will probably always be the original black/red Air Jordan I. It’s a clean, classic shoe, so it’s always a good look when you rock those. A close second would have to be the black/white Air Jordan 11. In the third grade I went to see Space Jam with Pops, and when MJ walked on the court with those icy soles, and shiny black patent leather, I knew I had to have a pair one day. On a side note, I dig the new varsity purple or “Eggplant” Foamposite as well. A great colorway on a legendary shoe, thumbs up to Nike on that one, real solid shoe.
Favorite Player: LeBron James off top. It’s unreal watching this guy play from night to night. You never know what you’re going to see. Guaranteed highlight reel plays and ridiculous dunks every time he steps on the floor.
Favorite Team: Golden State Warriors. Got to show love for the hometown squad.
Go-to-Move: The hook shot. Old-school, but effective.
I play: Every chance I get
Coming up I admired: Most definitely KG. Growing up playing in the post wasn’t always fun. Sometimes I just wanted to shoot jump shots and show I could handle it like everyone else. A lot of kids wanted to dribble like Iverson, shoot like Kobe, or emulate moves from the streetball scene, but for me KG definitely was someone I looked up to because he brought some flavor to playing in the post.
My basketball moment: When I was like eleven or twelve, I was playing at the hoop courts with some older guys. I crossed this one dude about three years older than me and ended up making him fall. He was so mad he actually threw the ball and left. Always makes me laugh when I think about it.
